Overview: Where Heritage Meets Modern Pokies
The Treasury Gaming Room is one of the most architecturally remarkable venues you'll ever visit in Australia. Housed inside the former Queensland Government Treasury Building, a heritage-listed Italianate Renaissance structure completed in 1889, this Brisbane institution offers a gaming experience that is genuinely unlike anything else in the country. Where other venues compete on size, Treasury competes on character — and character it has in abundance.
The building's original features have been meticulously preserved. Soaring marble columns, ornate plasterwork ceilings, terracotta tiled floors and grand archways all remain intact — creating an atmosphere that is simultaneously historic and sophisticated. Walking onto the main slot floor and seeing rows of modern Aristocrat and IGT machines against a backdrop of century-old architecture produces a genuinely striking contrast.
On our 2026 visits to Treasury, we were consistently impressed by two things: the quality of the slot machine selection and the unexpectedly excellent dining options. The venue has invested significantly in its food offering in recent years, and the results are evident.
🎰 Slot Machines & Gaming Floor
Treasury's gaming floor houses 270+ slot machines spread across the building's ground floor and mezzanine level. The ground floor is the main pokies area, featuring a broad mix of popular Aristocrat titles alongside a dedicated section for WMS Gaming machines and a bank of linked progressives that regularly attract a crowd of onlookers.
Progressive Jackpot Slots at Treasury
One area where Treasury genuinely excels is its progressive jackpot offering. The venue operates two separate linked jackpot networks — the in-house Treasury Jackpot Wheel and the state-wide Aristocrat Dragon Link progressive. Both networks tend to build to significant amounts before hitting, and the Dragon Link section on the ground floor frequently reaches jackpot values that draw players from across Brisbane. If jackpot hunting is your thing, Treasury should be high on your list.
The Mezzanine Level
The mezzanine level, accessible via a grand heritage staircase, is quieter and more intimate. It houses around 60 machines including several premium high-denomination slot titles, a dedicated area for electronic table games, and a small bar serving complimentary beverages to active players. The atmosphere here on a weeknight is the closest you'll get in Brisbane to a genuine VIP slot experience.
🍽️ Dining: Merces Restaurant & The Vault Bar
Treasury's two dining options couldn't be more different from each other, and together they cover virtually every occasion.
Merces Restaurant
Merces is Treasury's flagship dining room, set inside the building's original banking chamber. The space is breathtaking — think 8-metre ceilings, original terracotta tiles, wrought iron railings and candlelit tables. The menu focuses on modern Australian cuisine with a Queensland seasonal produce emphasis. Our 2026 visit produced a standout grilled barramundi with Native Australian herb butter and a superb twice-baked cheese soufflé. Treasury Rewards members receive 15% off the food bill every visit.
The Vault Bar
The Vault Bar — set literally inside the building's original bank vault — is one of the most atmospheric drinking spots in Brisbane. The original vault doors are still in place and serve as the entrance. Inside, the bar serves cocktails, premium spirits and wine in a cosy, intimate setting. It's ideal for pre or post gaming relaxation and is open to non-gaming guests as well.
